Sometimes, you look at the Specs – and you think “it’s a Surfboard Modem, and the SB6190 boasts x32 downstream and x16 upstream – that has GOT TO BE BETTER”, and you drop $140 in my case, and then you kick yourself.Why? Because Intel released a buggy Puma chipset, and Arris (Motorola) released a crappy, over-priced, unstable modem – and has not gone to the trouble to either fix the Puma chipset, upgrade to a stable chipset, or even attempt a firmware fix.So, what’s wrong with the SB6190 and why do you want this one? After all, it’s about half the maximum bandwidth. The “upgraded” modem boasts that is made for gaming. Unreliable connections, >50ms – 150ms jitter is the LAST thing anyone who games, or even streams Netflix wants. Do you like movies that pause for no reason at all? How about streaming apps that randomly freeze for no apparent reason? How about having to reboot your entire network (which can take 10 minutes alone) …. just because?That’s why you want this SB6183. It’s capable of 650+ Mbps from Cox, Xfinity and others, it’s DOCSYS 3.0 compliant, it’s supported – it’s pretty much legendary for being reliable – and STABLE. What you want in a home network, is a freakin’ ROCK. You set it, and you forget it is there. It should last years – decades even. If the most typical home bandwidth today is 75 Mbps, and it was 25 Mbps just 5 years ago; then the next bump will be in the 200 Mbps range in ~7 years, and perhaps 600 Mbps in ~14 years. What else can you think of, that will likely be serving you just fine in ~14 years; besides a well built work truck?

This modem will support up to 500+ mbps Comcast 600 mbps plan – Revised
6-8-2020 Revised – add one star backI add one star back, the reason that my SB6183 cannot support 600 Mbps was due to the cable leakage, Comcast sent a technician to the outside cable box and correct the cable connection issue (reinstall the cable connector). It now supports up to a low 500 Mbps wired connection, it is still not 600 Mbps, but getting close. I would say, this cable modem will support 500 Mbps, but no more than that. I kept it at 4 stars because both Comcast/Arris web site provide conflicting information, Comcast officially says it only supports up to 370 Mbps, and Arris says it is a 676 Mbps modem.The cable modem is reliable itself, it is a set-and-forget kind of device, the configuration and firmware update are all controlled by Comcast remotely.- Original reviewI talked to both Comcast and Arris technical supports, Comcast only supports SB6183 to 373 Mbps download, not the 676 Mbps speed as advertised at Amazon by Arris. Arris tech support insists that this is Comcast’s problem by limiting this modem’s capability arbitrarily. Comcast tech support showed their web page support site of the support speed is 373 mpbs max. I am caught in the middle of this football match.To avoid getting into a bind like I am now, be aware that this modem will not support more than 300 Mbps, you need to purchase another modem if you think of upgrading to a higher speed plan.Other than that, this modem performs well under the current 200 Mbps plan I have with Comcast.

Love Cable Cos That Let You Buy Own Modem
I love when cable companies let me buy my own modem, and stay away from subscribing if they force their equipment on me. I had the previous lower speed version for my studio apartment for 100mbps internet speed. But I moved to a larger house and installed Eero mesh system with 300 Mbps intent so I upgraded modem to this one. The tech gadget reviews said this has a much more stable connection than the faster Gigahertz modem so I opted for stability. I get the max download speed for 300 Mbps which is amazing since most users wouldn’t get what the internet company sends due to wiring or other issues. I love Arris products, reliable, high quality, durable, and easy to set up and trouble shoot. I always choose above Netgear, Cisco, Motorola, and Asus always dies on me after a year or two so won’t buy Asus anymore
