Advertised $240 Perk is VOID – Product is not New
Do not buy this if you are expecting the advertised $240 Google AI Pro subscription. This product is being sold as “New,” but the hardware arrived with clear physical signs of previous handling and debris on the unit itself. This isn’t just a cosmetic issue; it is a functional defect.Because the device has clearly been used before, the unique redemption code for the Google AI Perk has already been claimed. When I attempted to activate the subscription on the official Chromebook Perks page, I was notified that the offer was already redeemed for this specific device.This means the product’s primary value proposition is missing. You are essentially paying for a bundle that is impossible to activate. This is a massive failure in quality control. If you decide to risk this purchase, check your redemption eligibility immediately, as the “New” status of these units is highly questionable.

No Google AI perk?
The Chromebook was easy to set up, but the Google AI Pro perk (12-months of free) does not work as advertised. After setup, the user clicks “get perk” and then is prompted to check eligibility. For the first few hours nothing happened after clicking. Later it took me to a chrome page that had “device not eligible” in the url with a blank screen that said “sorry about that”. Amazon customer service could not help and told me to contact Acer. Acer customer service wasted 15 minutes of my time before telling me I would have to contact Google. Google customer service was fully automated (impossible to get to a person) and hung up on me. I finally got the free trial after the negative review was posted. Definitely not a straightforward process.

NO Backlight, poor ergonomics, speakers so so
This Acer Chromebook Plus 515 does NOT have a backlight keyboard, one of the most important features for me. Rufus assures the buyer this item does have a backlight keyboard. What a waste of my time!!! Also, beware that for powered headphone users, the usb power is on one side of the unit and the headphone jack is on the other side. What an idiotic design! Speakers are meh.

Terrible return policy for a malfunctioning computer
I bought a brand new Acer chromebook plus. The speaker barely emits a whisper. I called customer service and spoke to someone that barely understood English for about 20 minutes. Of course, he was no help and couldn’t fix the problem. I then attempted to return the computer and noted the “restocking fee” was outrageous. So now I am stuck with a laptop that I need to connect with an external speaker. What crap!

All Keyboard Keys Not Working When Unboxed – New Not Refurbished
If there was a Zero Star this laptop would get that. Replacing my kids Acer 314 Spin chromebook that the camera stopped working on (bought the warranty and assurion could not fix). “Upgrading” to this model. Opened, Charged and keys not working – Starting over AMAZON!! Also, beware when you buy from Amazon and purchase a warranty, your replacement is an AMAZON credit, did not read the fine print. I will update the review once we recive the second 714, will keep you posted.
